Welcome to Action Night!
RSVP ON MEETUP!
What is happening?
We are hosting an in-person event to gather Portlanders together to create change with community. The 150 members in our MeetUp Group come together to build sustainable homes for the people who need them. To do this, we are building a coalition of members with the capacity to create the exact change we want to see in our city.
Who are we?
We are a growing team of friends who enjoy creating real change. Change that helps people and our environment. This work is 100% volunteer, and none of us are paid. We are not a long-standing nonprofit with a mission set in stone. We are a flexible, action-oriented collective of Portlanders.
Our organization has funding, support, and volunteers. We have the capacity to have a tangible impact on society. Now, we are holding an event where you can decide that impact.
Let’s do it!!
Our current project recycles industrial waste plastic into building materials to construct homes for people living unhoused. We are building homes by recycling plastic. Our pilot home is being built in a Safe Rest Village in Northeast Portland. But as this organization expands, we get to decide what projects we will create and how we want to do it. This Action Night is an opportunity to bring activists, locals, and professionals together to synergize each of our ideas for direct action. We have the capacity to create powerful change. Now, let's get together in an energizing environment to brainstorm, share, and collaborate on how to do it!
The event will be in SE Portland at the historic Sellwood Community House. We will have free food donated from businesses around Portland.
We will gather at 6:30pm. There will be time to meet other people and enjoy the food and beverages. Once together, we will introduce the leads of each committee. We will hear from professionals about transitional housing and how to start movements. Then, we will break into groups to brainstorm together! In these brainstorming groups, we will look at these issues from an open mind. We will explore specific ideas like “how to fundraise our projects” and open-ended questions like “if we could help people living unhoused in any way possible, what should we do?”. The committees will share, and we will have lively group discussions. By the end of the event, we will have direct action for each committee to take, and we will be ready to actualize these ideas.
Join a new community of Portlanders building sustainable solutions to homelessness and more.
Let’s build it together.
